Mrs. Hicks' Class Procedures
1. Preparation For Class: Students are required to be in their seats when the bell rings at 8:00. Students are expected to have sharpened their pencils, emptied their backpacks, have their materials ready, and have used the restroom before the bell rings. As soon as the students enter the room they are to get ready for class and begin working on the warm up work on the board. 2. Agenda Books: Students are expected to write down their assignments in their agenda book every day. Students are to have their parents sign the agenda book each day. The first assignment in every class will be to write down assignments. Students keep their agenda books on their desks to be checked. Those who have all their assignments written down with a parent signature from the night before will receive a sticker. 3. Wednesday Homework Folder: Every Wednesday, students are to take home all graded papers in their orange folder to be signed and returned the following day. Conduct reports also go home in the orange folder to be signed and returned the following day, as well as notes to parents. 4. Paper Heading: Students are to have the proper heading on their papers, with name and subject on the left and name of assignment on the top line. Papers with no names may receive points off or a zero if not claimed. 5. Handwriting: Cursive handwriting is preferred but not required if print is easier to read. Please write in blue or black ink only. Papers which are too messy to read must be redone. Typing on the computer is always a great option. We will be working on typing skills in the computer lab the first nine weeks of school. 6. Teacher's Desk and Materials: Students are not permitted to use or be in the teacher's desk, unless otherwise notified to assist teacher. Students are not permitted to use overhead, bookshelves, chalkboard, and other instructional tools without permission. 7. Materials and Supplies: Students are responsible for their personal supplies. Items left unclaimed on the floor will be taken up and added to the class set. If using the teacher's supplies, they are expected to be careful and to place them where they belong when finished. 8. Pencil Sharpener and Restrooms: Pencil Sharpener is for before and after school use only. Students may use restrooms before school and during restroom breaks. No restroom use is permitted during whole class instruction except in an emergency. 9. Attention During Presentations: Students are expected to listen respectfully to all presentations; this includes teacher, student, or guest speakers. Questions are saved to the end of the presentation or when asked. 10. Interruptions or Delays: If teachers, parents or other visitors enter the room, students are expected to be courteous and work quietly. If an announcement is being made, all students need to be quiet and listen. 11.. Turning in Work: Group monitors are assigned to each table to take up work. Group monitors are responsible to collect work and inform the teacher if anyone has missing work. Homework not turned in at the appropriate time is considered late. 12. When Individual Work has been completed: Students may choose to read, or write in their journal. Students should have a book to read with them at all times. They may also choose from the class library. 13. Absences: All assignments for each day are written in Mrs. Hicks' assignment notebook by the class historian. The historian will also collect papers for any absent students and place them in the assignment notebook. If you have been absent, it is your responsibility to get the notebook, write down your assignments and collect your papers. If you have any questions about your assignments, feel free to ask me or another student. You have as many days as you were absent to make up work. 14. Student Movement: Students are expected to move appropriately in the classroom. No running is permitted. During transition, you are to be making a transition, not playing with a neighbor. 15. Entering the Room: Students are expected to enter the room quietly, go to their desk and await further instruction. 16. Leaving the Room: Students will have a rotation of duties for leaving the room. One student will be line leader and one student will be the caboose (who is responsible for shutting the door and turning out the lights.) The responsibilities rotate weekly. Other students are expected to line up appropriately between these two students. Students will be allowed to line up once their desk is clear and they are waiting quietly for instruction.
Procedures help the students feel safe and make things flow smoothly so we can focus on learning.
